How to Get a Part-Time Job or Internship in 2010

Start 2010 off right!

Job-seekers, the good news is that January is the most popular month to find a job. That is also the bad news. You've got a lot of competition.

So cast a wide net and apply for a lot of positions. Consider:
  • part-time jobs: even those billed as short-term or temporary could develop into full-time or permanent if you perform well.
  • internships: experience is critical to landing a full-time job in your desired industry.
  • small businesses: the company will not forget who helped them out in the early days.
  • multiple industries or job types: for example, if you want to ultimately land a job in marketing for a media company, consider doing part-time marketing for a retail company. Or finance for a media company. Either way you're getting closer to your dream and will have a great story to tell about building valuable experience.
If you do apply for a lot of positions, keep a list of the job and status of your application, and update it often. Nothing bugs an employer more than the words, "which company is this again?". If you don't appear to want it (even if it's not your dream job), why should they hire you?

Good luck and check out some awesome new jobs below! Full list of recent jobs posted on UrbanInterns.com is right here.
